When was your last London family portraits session?

Feb 13, 2023 | Family Photography

Last autumn, I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful family in Kensington Gardens who had just moved to London and used this occasion to capture some up to date London family portraits together.

A little more about the location…

Kensington Gardens is a beautiful park located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London. The park covers a huge area and is home to many famous landmarks, including Kensington Palace and the Albert Memorial, and the Serpentine Gallery. Originally part of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens was separated from it in the 18th century and transformed into a more formal landscape.

The park has a rich history, having been the site of many important events and occasions over the centuries. In the 17th century, it was a private hunting ground for the royal family, and in the 18th century, it became a fashionable place for wealthy Londoners to promenade and socialize. Today, the park features many amenities for visitors, including playgrounds, cafes, and sports facilities.

Kensington Gardens is now a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering opportunities for relaxation, recreation, and cultural experiences – and of course, London family portraits!

London Family Portraits

Often family life can get so busy that we easily forget to capture all the lovely in-between moments, especially with toddlers who always keep us on our toes! The toddler years are wonderful but also some of the blurriest of our lives – blink and you’ll miss them. Taking photos on our phones is brilliant but documenting these years with professional photographs is something you will never regret. You’ll cherish these memories for years to come and many of my clients come back for milestone or annual family portraits with me.

My Approach To Family Portraits

Whether we head to one of the city’s many parks, take images in your home, or do both, family photoshoots in London with me will always be relaxed and joyful. All you have to do is spend time together as a family and I will capture some candid moments. I will also be on hand before our session to advise on locations (check here for some ideas) and support with styling ideas. When we meet, I will provide some very gentle direction and then let the moments unfold naturally.

This lovely family had two young boys who just couldn’t wait to explore the park. We started our session walking up towards Kensington Palace. We were blessed with some beautiful autumnal sunshine which made for soft, warm light and pleasant enough temperatures to take our coats off! Heading out earlier in the day also meant that we had the park largely to ourselves for a little while – quite the treat considering how popular Kensington Gardens is.

The boys loved exploring, playing with the autumn leaves and coming back for kisses and cuddles with mum and dad. The result was a beautiful family portrait session, capturing plenty of authentic and warm moments, full of love and connection.

I would love to chat further to see what you have in mind for updating your family photos. Get in touch to plan your perfect London family portraits together.
