My top things to do in London with children

1. Explore the London Transport Museum

Start your London adventure by visiting the Transport Museum in Covent Garden. Little transport enthusiasts will be amazed by the collection of iconic vehicles, including vintage buses, trams, and trains. They can even hop on board some of the exhibits and take a ride through history. With interactive exhibits and engaging displays, the museum offers an exciting experience for children of all ages.

2. Discover the Wonders of Science at the Science Museum

Come to my neck of the woods and head to South Kensington to immerse your little ones in the fascinating world of science at the Science Museum. With hands-on experiments, mind-boggling displays, and interactive workshops, this museum provides an engaging and educational experience. Let your children’s curiosity run wild as they explore space, technology, and the marvels of the natural world. Definitely head to the WonderLab which is specifically designed for little ones, as well as the water play in the basement. It’s definitely one of my son’s favourite places to explore and there is so much to see, we go almost once a month.

3. Unleash the Imagination at the Diana Memorial Playground

Located in Kensington Gardens, the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground is a must-visit destination for families and therefore one of my favourite things to do in London with children. Inspired by Peter Pan, this whimsical playground offers endless fun with its pirate ship, teepees, and sensory play area. Watch your little ones embark on imaginative adventures while you relax in the beautiful surroundings. Another one of our favourite things to do in London with children and my husband dutifully takes our son most weekends ;).

4. Step into a World of Art and Creativity at the Young V&A

The Young V&A, part of the Victoria and Albert Museum and only open since July 2023, is a treasure trove of artistic inspiration for children. Engage your little ones in hands-on workshops, art installations, and storytelling sessions. Designed to ignite their creativity and appreciation for art and design, this interactive museum is an ideal spot for young aspiring artists. This one is sure to be a favourite amongst things to do in London with children.

5. Encounter Wildlife at the London Zoo

For an exciting day filled with animal encounters, head to the London Zoo in Regent’s Park. Explore the vast array of exhibits, including lions, penguins, monkeys, and even a reptile house. Watch your children’s faces light up as they come face to face with their favorite animals and learn about conservation efforts. You can easily spend half a day here and enjoy a picnic after your visit.

6. Enjoy a Picnic at Hyde Park

Escape the bustling city streets and head to Hyde Park for a leisurely picnic. Let your children run free in the wide-open spaces, hire pedal boats on the Serpentine Lake, or visit the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. Hyde Park offers a tranquil oasis where your little ones can unwind and roam around.

7. Discover another world at London Aquarium

Discover the enchanting world of the London Aquarium. With over 600 species, this aquatic wonderland captivates families with its mesmerising displays. Walk through the breath-taking Ocean Tunnel, surrounded by sharks and tropical fish. It’s one of my favourite things to do in London with children as you can engage in interactive experiences like touch pools and feeding sessions, and kids always leave completely fascinated. You can also learn all about conservation and the actions we can take to protect our oceans.

8. Go on an adventure at Play Base, National Army Museum

This is our go to for rainy days. A great thing to do in London with children up until 8 years old, Play Base is an immersive soft play area. From dressing up in military uniforms to engaging in imaginative role-play scenarios, the Play Base encourages creativity and active play. With interactive exhibits, climbable structures, and themed areas, children can immerse themselves in the world of soldiers, medics, and explorers.
