Are Newborn Photos worth it? 5 Reasons to capture your tiniest love

Apr 3, 2023 | Newborn Photography

Welcoming a new baby into the family is one of the most magical experiences in life. As parents, we often feel like we want to capture and cherish every single moment. But you may also be asking yourself whether newborn photos are worth it. With so many other expenses associated with having a new baby, it’s natural to be hesitant about investing money on something that might not seem essential.

As a newborn photographer, I might be a little biased! However, there are many reasons why having newborn photos taken is worth it, and in this article, I’ll share five of them with you.

1. Preserve this new chapter in your life

The first few weeks (or months!) are often a blur and time seems to fly by at lightning speed. It’s incredible how quickly our little ones transform in their first weeks of life. Newborn photos offer a unique opportunity to preserve those fleeting moments of what life was like during this time, which may otherwise fade from our memories. With two children myself, I know what it’s like!

These images become priceless treasures that can be shared with future generations. Investing in newborn photos is investing in a family heirloom, and it’s something you’ll cherish and appreciate as time goes by.

2. Remember all the tiny details

Newborns possess a range of special and delicate features that are truly unique to them. From their soft, downy hair and tiny fingers, to the little creases on their feet and their sleepy smiles, each detail is worth celebrating. A professional newborn photographer has the experience, creative eye and equipment to highlight these features, resulting in a series of stunning images that showcase your baby’s individuality.

3. Keep more than just iPhone photos

I would definitely encourage you to take plenty of photos yourself, from those first few minutes in hospital to the everyday moments as a new family. My husband took photos and videos of both of our children and I when they were less than five minutes old and those are some of my most prized possessions! However, having professional photos taken in addition to your own is priceless – how else will you have photos of you, your children and your partner?

Once home from hospital, it’s usually the mother taking all images and you’ll therefore be absent in most of them. I am passionate about getting mothers into photos with their loved ones so you can enjoy images that truly capture the essence of the connection between you and your baby, as well as the rest of the family. I especially love candid and authentic photos that will take you right back to that special moment for years to come.

4. Mark milestones as your baby grows older

Newborn photos provide a beautiful starting point for documenting your child’s growth and development throughout their life. As your baby grows and reaches new milestones, you can continue to capture these moments, creating a visual timeline of your child’s journey from a tiny newborn to a thriving individual.

Having a collection of photographs that document your child’s growth allows you to look back and marvel at the changes they’ve undergone. In the end, investing in newborn photography sets the stage for a lifelong tradition of capturing and cherishing the milestones, big and small, in your child’s life – and they will be incredibly grateful for these in later years.

5. Enjoy some artwork in your home every day

As mentioned, most of your photos will live on your iPhone. When was the last time you printed and framed one of those images? Your newborn photos easily become mixed into your other snaps and end up living on a hard drive or the cloud.

One of the most beautiful things about your professional newborn photos is that you can enjoy them around your home every day. I am proud to offer different options for incredible quality prints, albums and frames which your children will enjoy in the years to come as well. When they’re older, they’ll want their memories preserved and printed, and not dig out a hard drive! I love seeing old photos of our family in the albums that my parents lovingly put together.

You can choose from various finishes, sizes, and framing options to create a custom piece that reflects your taste and works with your own living space. I would be delighted to support you in choosing these.

But wait, I just gave birth…

As a mum myself, I completely understand that dressing up and having photos taken might not be the first thing on your mind. The early days as a new mother are a little crazy! I will work with you to find the best time that suits you and your family to have these images taken. By no means do we need to take photos by a set time and it is my job to make you feel and look comfortable and beautiful. Finally, this blog post is the ultimate guide on newborn photography at home which talks about why I love this genre so much, what to expect and why this might be perfect for you too, whether your little love is 2 weeks or 2 months old.

I am sure that you will find newborn photos are 100% worth it! I love all of these reasons. In fact, I think newborn photos are cherished even more as we age and as our children age. They end up being some of our most cherished possession in life. I mean….if you house is burning down, and you only have a minute to grab a few items, what do you grab?!? Photos!
